about

This CD presents a selection of performances recorded as part of a series of lab experiments on collective free improvisation conducted under the supervision of musicologist Clément Canonne.
These experiments were designed to analyse some of the cognitive and interactional processes at play in free improvisation and to present them as objectively as possible to the scientific community at large.
The participants had to explore many unusual situations in these experiments, such as communicating various social attitudes to one another or having to end their performances in specific ways.
This resulted in some highly stimulating music, performed by an impressive cast of improvisers.
The CD also includes an essay by C. Canonne which presents the main results obtained during these experiments and suggests further musical games for improvisation workshops.
